Mrs G. Holloway, formerly Miss Nancy Gibbs, of the orchestra at the Wanganui Opera House, was taken seriously ill yesterday while on a visit to i Wellington. A London message states that American official circles announce that Mr Frederick Sterling of the United States Embassy in London, has been appointed Minister to the Free State. Mr Phil Maddock, of Metro- Gold-wyn-Mayer Film Corporation has arrived in Wanganui to make arrangements for the screening of “The Big Parade. ’ ’ After a fortnight’s motor tour via the Parapara Road to Tokaanu, Taupo, Rotorua, Auckland, and Waitomo, Messrs C. S. Swan, B. C. W, Dean and •L. W. Searle, of Wanganui, and Mr Roy Halso, of Marton, have returned home. A Paris message states that M. Briand celebrated tho 21st anniversary of his entering into Parliamentary life. He received congratulations from all over tho Europe. He has broken all records having been Prime Minister ten times ami on 16 occasions Cabinet Minister. Recent arrivals at Foster’s Hotel include Messrs W. A. Fargie, E. R. Bate, J.
