A GOVERNMENT DUTY
CARE OF UNEMPLOYED CITIZENS’ COMMITTEE DISBANDS [ Per Press Association. ] AUCKLAND, Feb. 16. The Auckland Unemployment Committee, formed last June, decided todiay to disband and place the onus for relieving unemployment upon the Government. It was resolved to notify the Prime Minister of this decision during his visit to Auckland on Friday, and inform him that the committee could not longer perform any useful service in view of the Government’s apathy towards its activities. When the edmmittee met it was announced that the Mayor (Mr G. Baildon) would not bo present, and that the assistant Tow n Clerk had resigned his post as secretary to the committee owing to the pressure of other business. These two circumstlances were taken to mean that the City Council intended to drop out from the committee’s activities.
