FOR IMMIGRANTS ONLY

POSITION IN AUCKLAND BITTER COMMENT ON UNEMPLOYMENT SITUATION (Special to “Chronicle.”) AUCKLAND, Feb. 16. “It is impossible for a man to get work in this town, unless he is an immigrant or else speaks with a strong foreign accent,” said John Mclntosh, aged 55, to Mr W. R. McKean, S.M., at the Police Court to-day. Mclntosh admitted that he was an idle and disorderly person with insufficient means of support. The police stated that at 12.40 o’clock this morning accused was found wandering about the railway yards. Ho had not been working lately and had no money and nowhere to go. Captain Davies of the Salvation Army had looked after accused some time ago, and had given him shelter, but Mclntosh got drunk and left. “Send me up above to the gaol,” said Mclntosh. “Then I can at least say that I have got a job at last. That’s something over 4000 men in Auckland at tho present time cannot say.” Mclntosh got his position. He was sentenced to two months’ imprisonment.
