DEATH-BED CONFESSION MISSING £7OOO FAIRBANKS, Fob. 14. Alaska’s latest epic of gold, snow’ drifts and crime has just been revealed. Four years ago a woman namw! Nellie Beattie, known throughout the rough northern camps as “Black Bear,” was riding aboard tho U.B.A. dog mail train, driven by Bill Shormeyer, who had £7OOO in post-offico funds in his custody. Beattie and tho funds disappeared overnight, and a four years’ chase resulted. Shermcyer on his death bed confessed his love for Beattie, who was arrested in Mexico. Boattio had hidden tho gold behind a boulder, but when arrested she revealed tho hid-ing-place. However, she was sentenced to throe years’ imprisonment, but It is bojicved that she will bo pardoned shortly. Beattie and Shermeyer have been reunited on the latter’s death-bed.
