PROTEST IN CHURCH

VICAR IN TROUBLE USE OF REVISED SERVICES. LONDON, Feb. 13. The Bev. W. Geikie Cobb, robed in a chasuble and maniple, which are not yet officially sanctioned, though he has used them for the past half-century, and attended by two women altar servers, began the revised form of service at St. Ethclburges, Bishopsgate. The congregation rose and protested against its continuance because the new Prayer Book had not been ratified. Mr. Cobb said that such an interruption w. # ; legally classifiable as brawling. He explained that he desired to allow the congregation to sec how the service worked, whereupon a woman rose up, briefly joined in the protest, and walked out, accompanied by a male interjector. There was no further interruption. Mr. Cobb subsequently said that he had been told that the Bishop regarded his action as a very grave one. This made him smile. It would not stop the revolution on earth.
