BOROUGH COUNCIL (From the “Chronicle’s” Special Correspondent). The monthly meeting of the Patea Borough Council was held on Monday evening, his W - hip the Mayor (Mr P. S. Finlayson)'presiding. The Deptay Chief Inspector of Explosives wrote enclosing a copy of the amended regulations in connection with kinemfttograph shows, and pointing out certain requirements. The Mayor stated that following the. instructions of the Council, names of persons driving motor cars land not having a license, had been handed to the police, with the result that all but two now paid up, and an example would be made of defaulters at tho next sitting of the Magistrate’s Court. It was decided to terminate the engagement of the present Town Hall custodian, and offer the position to Mr Lamb at the same renumcration as is now paid. It was resolved to close tho borough offices for the Christmas holidays from December 24 to January 4, and to hold the first meeting of the Council in January on the J Oth. It was resolved to ask residents io be as sparing as possible with the use of water during the present month. The Afayor'was empowered to obtU’.n a suitable tarsprayer. The engineer reported that the hydro electricity plant had operated very sue cessfully throughout the month, having run for 743 hours and generated 19,452 units. The Public Works Department htad inspected the lines, and with the exception of a few old connections to houses, and a portion of the Devon Street line, the service complied with the Government’s regulations. The engineer also reported that the water supply had been well maintained during the month, 900,000 gallons having been pumped.
