Dr. Stresemann, expounding the importance of the Locarno treaties, emphasised that the Security Pact meant that France renounced the policy involved in Marshal Foch and M. Clemenceau’s suggestions at the Versailles Conference that the Rhine be the western frontier of Germany. He alluded to the political significance of the fact of Britain’s undertaking fully to protect Germany against French attack. He declared that the German treaties wtih Poland and Czccho-Slovakia contained nothing that could be construed as recognition of Germany’s present eastern frontier. The Poland-French and the Czecho-French supplementary treaties added to the rights beyond those France enjoyed through membership of the League.
