SARRAIL’S INDISCRETION

FACTS OF THE CASE TROOP TRANSPORTATION IN ORDER. PROVIDED FOR BY TREATY. Received November 3, 8.5 p.m. LONDON, Nov. 2. British diplomatic circles, commenting on the “Daily Express” story, state that under the Franco-Turkish agreement the Turks are allowed to transport troops destined for the Kurdish border by a railway crossing Syrian territory. France informs Britain of the details of those troops. The number of Turkish troops in the Mosul area is never increased. [The “Daily Express” stated that General Sarrail’s indiscretions had not been limited to Damascus, and it added that information reached the British Foreign Office last week that the Turks had been given permission to transport five thousand troops across Syria to the Mesopotamia border. Britain immediately protested to France, but it is by no means clear that France had any alternative. There is strong reluctance on the part of France to do anything inimical to her relations with Turkey.]
