BIBLE IN SCHOOLS

(To the Editor). Sir, —Al ay 1. through your columns, ask tho cleci.ns when easting their votes on Wednesday to give due consideration to the attitude of candidates on the matter of Bible teaching in schools! The Bible is the standard of our moral ideals as a nation, and ignorance of its contents unfits our children to understand our national ideals, our moral standards, our finest literature, art and music. Its contents are so interwoven with British life and thought that its omission from our school cirrieulum is an absudity. The Isitt. Bill, defeated last Parliament, but to be reintroduced, provides for simple Bible reading, conducted by the teach ers, and makes full allowance for any conscientious objection of either parents or teachers. In Wanganui electorate Air Coull has publicly declared that he will vote for the Bill, and i»: Rangitikei electorate Air Glenn was a supporter of it last session, and still adheres to that opinion. Air Veitel spoko and voted against the Bill. Th? Labour candidates are all definitely pledged by their policy to absolutely “secular” education. The Bible ir. Schools League appeals to the electors in their choice of candidates to consider tho right l ' of our children to Bible knowledge as a part of their regular education. —I am. etc. JOHN PATERSON. Hon. Sec. Bible in Schools League.
