INSIDIOUS SUGGESTIONS

(To the Editor). Sir, —On the 21st inst. Air Veitch stated at Keith Street in reply to a question regarding fusion:—“The conference proved that the differences were so great that we could not get together at all.” I see no reason to misbelieve Mr Veitch, and his reply clearly indicates that fusion with the Reformers and their leader, Mr Coates, is quite impossible. However, some of Air Veitch’s ardent w’orkers have the audacity to state that voting for Mr Veitch is as good or the same thing as supporting Mr Coates, the able leader of the Reform Party, tind one has even gone so far as to state that Air Veitch, if elected, will be appointed to Cabinet rank by Mr Coates, which is absolute bunkum. Alay I appeal to your readers to turn these suggestions and their carriers down with the thud they deserve. It is nothing but canvassers’ piffle. It is no presumption on my part to state that the indications arc that the bulk of the electors desire to see Air Coates returned as Prime Minister. Mr Coates leads a party, and it cannot be impressed too much on the electors that the only way to give effect to their desire is to vote for the candidate who represents him land his party in this figlit. As stated by Mr Veitch, he belongs to a party whose differences with that Jed by Mr Coates arc so great that they cannot get together at all. and I say they never will, except individually for political shelter, some with Air Coates and others with Mr Holland. Truly they arc U political blancmange; they wobble so.—l am, etc., WAGE-EARNER. Wanganui, October 27, 1925.
