PROHIBITION CAMPAIGN. (From the “Chronicle’s” Special Correspondent.) There was a fairly largo audience at the Presbyterian Hall last Wednesday evening, whefi Airs. Rachael Don, pre sident of the W.C.T.U., delivered an address on “Prohibition.” After dealing at some length with Prohibition in the United States the speaker stated thut “half truth” statements appeared in tho liquor trafic’s paper, “Cheerio.” She advanced m an able manner many arguments in favour of the abolition of tho liquor traffic, Sho concluded by making a touching appeal to those present to tnke an active and vital interest in the temperance movement. On tho motion of Mr. J. Bowatcr, Airs. Don was accorded a hearty vote of thanks for her address, after which tho National An diem was sung.

UTIKU DANCE. A SUCCESSFUL FUNCTION. Over sixty couples from tho surrounding districts were the guests of Air. Thomas Potaka at a danco in the Utiku Hall on Thursday evening. The building was beautifully decorated and the floor was in fine order, while the good music provided by tho combined Karioi and Winiata Orchestras mado anything but a successful and enjoyable evening impossible. An excellent supper was dispensed under tho ablo supervision of Alesdames Gardner and Jones, both of whom aro to bo congratulated on tho results that attended their efffforts. Mr. J. Hines, who ably carried out tho duties of AI.C., took the opportunity during the evening to thank Air. Potaka for his hospitality. Ho paid a tribute to the Utiku people as organisers of social functions and stated thlat tho danco that evening was a credit to their host. FIRE AT OHUTU. On Thursday evening a four-roomed house owned and occupied by Air G. Al. Transom, of Ohutu, was almost totally destroyed by fire. Air. Transom was attending the dance at Utiku, there being no one in the house at the time of the outbreak, and when the alarm was given nothing could be done. The house and furniture were lightly insured but it is understood that the owner is a heavy loser. The cause of the fire is not yet known. JUNIOR FOOTBALL. The gold medals donated for the most improved black and forward in tho Taihape junior teams were won by M. Keating (back) and T. Wilson (forward). CHILDREN’S BALL. The children’s annual ball takes plkce on Friday evening. Elaborate arrangements aro being mado by enthusiastic committees.

LAWN TENNIS. TAIHAPE v. HUNTERVILLE. A team from Hunterville visited Taihape on Mondlay, and played a most enjoyable match. Scores are as under, Taihape being mentioned first : Men’s Singles.
