RAETIHI TENNIS CLUB ANNUAL MEETING (From the “Chronicle’s’’ Special Correspondent). The annual meeting of the Raetihi Tennis Club was held on Friday evening. Mr F. Glasgow (president) presided. Resignations and Elections The secretary reported that twelve resignations had been received. These were accepted with regret. Thirteen new members were then nominated and elected. Wire Netting. Mr Ironside moved that the question of placing wire netting at the end of courts be a recommendation to the incoming committee. Report and Balance Sheet The report and balance sheet were adopted. They showed that the club had a successful year both from a playing and financial point of view. Election of Officers. The following were elected officers for the ensuing year:—President, Mr 11. Rieper; vice-presidents, Messrs Ironside, Thomson and Aliss Bryers; secretary and treasurer, Mr Whittington; executive committee, Messrs Glasgow, Bigley, R. Smith and Rev. Gibson; ladies’ committee. Misses Gordon, Wilson, Sigley, Dr. Kime and Mrs Legge. The lease of the property from the Bowling Club was submitted to the meeting, and after perusal was approved. Appreciation A hearty vote of thanks was passed to those who had assisted the club during the past season, and also to those who had generously provided trophies. Messrs Glasgow (president) and W. Thomson (secretary) did not seek nomination for either of the positions, and at the conclusion of the meeting they were accorded votes of thanks for past services. Before the close of the meeting Mr Glasgow (president) referred to the approaching marriage of Miss Pearl Harris, and, on behalf of the club, present-

ed her with a set of carvers and stainless knives. He wished her happiness in her future home. The meeting closed with a vote of thanks to the chair. BOWLING On Labour Day a team of bowlers, representing the local club, visited the Taihape green and had a most enjoyable outing. They report that the Taihape green is now in perfect order, and it is anticipated that many enjoyable games will be played this season between the two clubs. GOLF Though the weather was somewhat cold and windy on Labour Day, it did not mar the final games of the season. There was a large crowd on the links, and a most pleasant day was spent. The ladies provided afternoon tea. which was much appreciated by the players and onlookers. During the afternoon the president (Mr Jennings) presented the following trophies won by the various members during the season:— Men’s championship (cup), Mr Urwin.

Men’s runner-up (glass ink-stand), Ritchie. Ladies’ runner-up (plate), Mrs Cracroft Wilson. Men’s stroke, for points (cigarette case). Jefcoate. Ladies’ stroke, for points (fish knives and forks) Mrs Murray. Ladies’ Golf Union medal, Mrs Cracroft Wilson. The Ist, 2nd, 3rd, 4th. and sth men’s stroke competitions were won by Bryers, Jefcoate, Johnston, Jefcoate and Cummins respectively. They received pencils. The Ist, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and sth ladies’ stroke competitions were won by Mrs Bradley, Miss Bryers, Mrs Murray, Mrs Murray, Mrs Murray respectively. They received spoons. The Ist, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and sth men’s bogey games were won by Jefcoate, Bryers, Cummins. Urwin, Bryers respectively. Opening day putting (glass ash tray) Johnston. Ladies’ driving (trinket case), Mrs Bryers. Men’s driving (metal ash tray), Ritchie. Ladies’ putting (jar), Miss N. Bryers. Men’s putting (China ash tray) Dr Boyd. Ladies’flag match (honey jar), Miss Bryers* Men’s flag match (inkstand), Bryers. Ladies’ one club (plate), Miss Legge. Men’s one club (ash tray), Cummins. 18 holes stroke play* for ladies (bowl), Miss Gordon. A four ball best ball match was played during the afternoon. Mrs T. E. McLean and Murray carried the ball on to the 19th green in 100 strokes, and Miss Proude and Bryers were just short of the distance in 102 strokes. Mrs Windle and Johnston were on the 18th green in 91 and Mrs Cracroft Wilson and Davies were just outside in 99.
