90-MILE GALE
SWEEPS ENGLAND AND FRANCE AIR MAIL BREAKS RECORD BLOWN AT TERRIFIC SPEED LONDON, Oct. 23. A. ninety-milo gale, with torrential rain, in England and France, is damaging telegraphs and telephones. Numerous ships are limping up the Channel. The Cologne-London and Paris-Lon-don air mails were blown to Croydon at a. terrific speed. They landed safely. Two aerial accidents happened in Bordeaux and a pilot was killed and a mechanic broke his spine. A naval plane with a crew of four fell into a lake and three were drowned and the fourth seriously injured.
