LIFE-SAVING SOCIETY

ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of the Royal Life-Saving Society (Wanganui Head Centre), was hold in the Wanganui Jockey Club’s rooms on Thursday night, 7\lr D. Robbins presiding. Chairman’s Report. The chairman reported that following on the amalgamtion of the Royal Life-Saving Society and Castlecliff Surf Club, the society had a credit balance of £8 12s 6d. During the year an appeal ,had been made to the public, and from £his source £lO6 3s lid had been derived. The society had now a balance of £lO6 3s Id, which was a very satisfactory position. They had been unfortunate last season on account of the infantile paralysis epidemic, and this prevented them from attending to the school children’s requirements, and their putting through the awards. However, they had held the usual shield and medal competitions, and the honours had gone to the Gonville Schoo] on each occasion. The society’s best work had been executed in regard to the surf section. They had no less than ten teams available for active service, and on every holiday they had the beach well patrolled. For the first time in the history of the society they were able to go to Kai Iwi beach and man a reel and life line. During the season they had had many cases to attend to, and, in one day alone, twelve rescues were effected. A visit had been paid to Flock House, and instruction had been given in life-saving and resuscitation work. The visit was appreciated and it behoved the incoming committee to carry on the good work. The society had accomplished good work, if they continued as they had commenced, they would be able to render further service to the public, to whom they looked for assistance. Mr F. K. Turnbull said the balancesheet showed that the committee had been alive and active. It revealed a satisfactory state of affairs, and it would enable them to broaden their sphere of activities. The report and balance-sheet were adopted. Election of Officers. The election of officers for the ensuing year resulted as follows: —Patron, Mr D. McFarlane; president, Mr D.
