TAIHAPE

WAIOURU-TOKAANU ROAD (From the “Chronicle’s” Special Correspondent). In. reference to the Waiotiru-Tpkaanu road, the annual report which was presented at the meeting of the Taihape Chamber of Commerce on Friday, evening stated: “This matter has been under discussion at every meeting. Much correspondence has passed between your Chamber on the one hand and the Minister of Public Works (Hon. J. G. Coates), the member for this district (Mr W. 8. Glenn), Mr H. D. Bennett (who is very actively interested and whoso advice and assistance has been and will continue to be most valuable) and all chambers of commerce and automobile associations between Taihape and Wellington. It is hoped that the ultimate result will be a much improved motor road, which will be a great benefit to the settlors of Tokaanu and Taupo districts and incidentally the residents of our town and district. Your council believes that a further vote for this road will be provided when the next Estimates are prepared. The death of the late Mr Massey prevented the carrying out of a scheme which your council had in view of conducting Mr Coates over the road.” It is noteworthy that at the Taihape Borough Council meeting on Friday evening it was decided to support the Chamber of Commerce in its efforts to have the road improved.
