“AS MAN DESIRES.” AT BULLS TO-MORROW NIGHT. (From the “Chronicle’s” Special Correspondent.) Milton Sills goes to sea again. He is Captain John Clay, of the two-mast-ed pearl schooner, “Lark,” (formerly Major John Craig of the Indian Army) in First National’s “As Man Desires,” a rapid-fire drama of romance at the Bulls Town Hall tomorrow (Saturday) night. Gono are the bushy hirsute adornments and trappings of Sir Oliver Tressilian, the indomitable hero of Frank Lloyd’s picturisation of “The Sea Hawk.” Viola Dana, who is co-featured in the drama, in the role of the halfwild native dancing girl, falls in love with him, and Sills marries her with the intention of making her into a “fine lady,” las a rebuff to the memory of the girl whose fancied infidelity has brought about his disgrace and exile.

The supporting cast includes Ruth Clifford, Rosemary Theby, Tom Kennedy, Paul Nicholson, Lou Payne, Hector Sarno, Anna May Watha'll, Edneh Altemus and Frank Leigh. Irving Cummings directed under Earl Hudson, supervisor of First National productions. BULLS TOWN BOARD. MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the board was held on Monday night, there being present Cmrs F. A. Holland, W. Kearney, C. M. Broughton, V. Edhouse, T. Ellery and J. E. Walker. In the absence of the chairman (Cmi H. J. D. McManaway), who is indisposed, Cmr Walker was voted to the chair. A letter from the Survey Department was read requesting the fee for surveying Taheke Domain. The board is unable to make any payments in regard to the Domain as a Domain fund has not yet been established. Cmr. Holland guaranteed the amount to the Department. Several minor matters relating to road and street maintenance work were attended to. _ The foreman’s report dealing with similar matters was read. MINIATURE RIFLE SHOOTING. The final shoot for Messrs Edhouse and Mansell’s trophies was fired on Tuesday night, the following scores being registered:—D. Lundy 09, 70, 4 • —140; A. Phillips 68, 69, 4—140; C. Edwards succeeded in winning both trophies with a score of 420. The next highest scorers were: W. Smith 418, F. Ralfe 418, J. Mansell 418, C. M. Broughton 418, and K. Hill 418. BULLS TENNIS CLUB. A SUCCESSFUL OPENING. The Bulls Tennis Club opened their courts on Wednesday in beautiful weather, and there were a large number of players and friends, including a number of visitors from Marton, Palmerston North, Shannon and Rongotea.

The president, Mr. G. D. Flower, welcomed the visitors on behalf of the club and expressed the ■wish that they would have an enjoyable afternoon’s play. Tho elub’s finances, he was pleased to say, were in a very flourishing condition. Starting the selason with a debit balance of £5O, they had wound up with a credit of £25. The committee had authorised the expenditure of £7O for various improvements and additions to the courts. Mr. F. J. Mansell, vice-president, who opened the courts, said that he was pleased to officiate in the absence of the president’s wife, to whom the honour should go, but he hoped that some day the latter would be present to perform tho duty. Ho congratulated the, club on the smart appearance of the courts generally and then opened them for 1925-26 season by sending over a smashing service. Under the supervision of Mesdames Ralfe and Walker a dainty afternoon tea wtas served which was greatly appreciated by all present.' After a splendid afternoon on the courts a dance was held in the Oddfellows’ Hall 'in the evening.
