MAGISTRATE'S COURT Wednesday, October 21. Before Mr R. M. Watson. S.M. Civil Cases. i (From the ' 1 Chronicle’s ’ ’ Special Correspondent.) .lodgment was given for plaintiff in the following cases:— J. E. Whiting v. Rangi Pahia, claim £3 10s and costs. Coury Bros. v. A. S. R. Thompson, claim £4 14s 2d and costs. R. E. Chisholm v. J. G. Young, claim 30s and costs. E. Cawthray v. R. Sullivan, claim £124 17s 4d and costs. T. A. Harris v. John Rainu, claim £2 and costs.
Horses Wandering. David Bates was charged with allowing horses to be driven through the street and trespass on the footpath, i The horses were not under command and there were people about at the time. Defendant was fined 5s and costs. Too Many Passengers. J. O. Gale, taxi driver, was charged with carrying passengers on the running board of the ear, which was, it was contended a dangerous practice. Mr Waldegrave did not press for a heavy penalty and defendant was ordered to pay court costs. Two Girls Quarrel. Two young girls recently quarrelled at Makaranui and there was a claim for assault and a counter-claim. Plaintiff, Jessie Visky, in the first case contended that Blanche Probstal struck her three times and knocked her
down. Defendant on the other hand contended that plaintiff struck her first and also “got the last blow in.” After evidence had been given at length both informations were dismissed, and both parties were ordered to pay tlfeir own costs. Recalcitrant Prisoner A prisoner named Thomas was brought to Raetihi on Wednesday morning, and was charged with assaulting a warder. He was tried by Justices, and sentenced to 10 day’s solitary confinement on bread and water.
