Y.M.C.A. FAIR

The fair organised by the Ladies’ Auxiliary, in aid of the Y.M.C.A., was held in Harman’s Hall yesterday afternoon and evening. The hall was tastefully arranged for the occasion, and the various stalls were well stocked with all kinds of produce and useful articles. The following ladies were in charge of the different stalls:—Cake stall: Mesdames Harkness, Bassett and Ellis. Sweet stall: Mesdames McFarlane and Bond. Flower stall: Mrs Cuthbertson. Art stall: Mesdames Carpenter and Therkleson. Produce stall. Mesdames Hair and Denton. Jumble stall: Miss Duirs and Mrs Strawbridge. Street flower stall: Mrs Harman. Refreshment stall: Misses McDougall and McMillan. Tea rooms: Mesdames Dustin, Rowling, McMillan, McDougall, Hunger, Simpson and Misses Jardine apd Park.

The fair was opened by His Worship the Mayor, Mr Hope Gibbons. Mr Hector Christie, president of the Y.M.C.A., in introducing the Mayor, outlined the activities of the association, and thanked the members of the Ladies’ Auxiliary for arranging the fair. He then called upon the Mayor to declare the fair open. His Worship referred to the good work the association was doing among the boys of the town, and stated that he would like to see a similar association for the girls. He concluded by wishing the fair every success
