A LIQUOR TRAGEDY
SORDID STORY. Received March 26, 5.5 p.m. MELBOURNE, March 26. As a sequel to several women and men engaging in a drinking party on the banks of the Yarra at Collingwood, the body of a woman named Maud Anderson was recovered from the river. Subsequently a man named Panthinet was arrested on a charge of murder. An eye-witness named Hogan informed the police that he saw the man drag Anderson over the riverbank and she immediately sank_ The man struck Hogan for attempting to interfere. After the fighting Hogan left. Other evidence showed that the tragedy followed a quarrel over 1/6 which the man gave Anderson and wanted returned.
