THE NEERIM TRAGEDY.
DID MAPLE SUICIDE? Received March 29, 9.30 p.m. MELBOURNE, March 29. A post mortem on Maple showed that he was shot by a small bullet similar to that used in his own rifle. As far as is known, none of the attackers used such rifles. It is believed Maple suicided to avoid arrest. (Maple, a boy of 151 years of age and weighing 12 stone, broke our of a reformatory, and with a companion, stole guns and ammunition, with which they opened fire. They were surrounded by an armed party and Maple was shot between the eyes as the result (it was thought) of a fusilade by the party, against whom Maple had opened fire.)
