NEXT SEASON’S WHEAT.
fPer Press Association). CHRISTCHURCH, March 22. A lengthy discussion tooik place at a meeting of the executive of the North Canterbury Farmers’ Union on the question of whether next season’s wheat should be under Government control or whether it should be free market. Various branches had been asked their views, aud the majority were in favour of Government control. The importance of the Dominion producing its own foodstuffs was stressed in the discussion, also the fact that if payable prices were not forthcoming wheat growing land would be devoted to other purposes and the Dominion would be dependent on outside sources’ for its wheat supply. Eventually, it was agreed by ten votes to three: “That in the opinion of this meeting the Government be asked to favourably consider controlling wheat for another year by fixing the minmlum price."
