WHAT THIS MEANS.

Mr Veitch knows quite weH that the only Labour members who are at all likely to be elected in number sufficient to constitute even a small group, or Rarty, in Parliament will be the officially endorsed nominees of the Official Labour, or extremist party. With the exception, perhaps, of one or two lonely ploughmen, the members of the Holland Semple group are the only.men who "may be persuaded to range themselves behind the Liberal Party for the purpose of holding it in office. The Ward Party cannot possibly hold office,. even in the highly improbable event of their securing a small majority at the polls, without the assistance of the extremists. Yet Mr Veitch will vote against Mr Massey, knowing, as he must do, that by so. doing he will lay this country open to the grave peril of such a combination. And this is where the New* Plymouth incident is relevant? to this contest. The facts of that incident, which are this morning publicly disclosed for the first time, servfe as a legitimate test of the. sincerity of Mr Veitch's principles and the value of his declarations. On that occasion he asked the electors to believe he went to New Plymouth to help in the inauguration of just such a party as that which he now says he is looking for. But what does the evideiice disclose? Read it, and judge for yourselves. You will then realise what the reelection of Mr Veitch would mean.
