MR. VEITCH WILL SUPPORT THE LIBERALS AGAINST REFORM.

AND VOTE AGAINST MR. MASSEY,

In reference to his statement concerning his present attitude towards the parties, -which he made at the Opera House on Thursday night, last night's Herald says:— In reference to the above matter, Mr Veitch was seen by a Herald representative to-day, and asked to further explain his position, more particularly in reference to the opening statement that "he had not promised to support Sir Joseph WaVd." Mr Veitch said the bald statement was perhaps apt to cause misunderstanding.. What he had in his mind was that he would not support Sir Joseph Ward as a member of the latter's party. "Does that mean that you will support Sir Joseph Ward as against Mr Massey?" he was asked.

"Certainly," replied Mr Veitch, "I am not joining Sir Joseph Ward's party, but I wish it distinctly understood ■ that.l will vote with Lira against Mr Massey on a no-confidence motion. I prefer the Liberals-to Reform, and, to that extent, will support them, and wilL at all times vote with them to get 'rid of Mr Massey.

"I am hopeful/ Mr Veitch continued, "that with ; my vote and with the assistance of other Moderate Labour men, we shall be able to unseat the Massey Government, after which I hope that the moderate Labour and Independent members of the House may be persuaded to range themselves behind the Liberal Payty ,for the purpose of holding it in office, in order to secure the passage of democratic legislation. I think that is quite clear."
