ANOTHER FABRICATION.
At a political meeting in the Riccarton electorate last week an elector made the definite statement that Mr Massy was one of the largest shareholders in the Auckland flour mills. The idea behind the statement apparently was to show that chis was the reason that the Prime Minister had countenanced the system of the subsidy to the millers, and also why the wheat-growing farmers of i Canterbury and North Otago had found it difficult to obtain more favourable terms in connection with the Government wheat control and the prices paid for the cereal. Mr Devereux, of course, could not. deny the statement off hand at the meeting, but the Hon. J. Moore was curious enough about the matter to telegraph to Mr Massey at Queenstown, asking if the allegation was true. The Prime Minister replied, on Saturday:
—"The statement is an absolute fabrication. I have never owned a share in any flour mill in my life." It would be interesting to know how large a proportion of the statements made against Mr Massey and his party have foundations as solid as the abovementioned one!
