GOVERNMENT DECLINES
LIABILITY.
Some of the requisites for fighting the recent epidemic in Wangamu came to light at the meetiug of the Borough Council last night in consequence of the Government declining any liability iv regard to certain accounts..* "the first item is £6 7s ,?dm eifsar* ettes and tpbaooo,' said the Mayor. "The next item is two pairs of ladies' boots at 29s 6d a fcair, although I 4o not know what part or the treatment they were used tor. xlie third item is £1 5s for a wristlet wal<ch. The Government has queried that, too. Perhaps it was used lor (tuning pulses." Cr. Harkness; Will tne Borough have in pay? , The Mayor (resignedly): . I don't know what to do with them.
The Councillors accepted the position philosophically, ©n« member asking it the Borough would get the boots. Or. Gower finally moved that th© accounts be paid, and as this was apparently the only solution of the problem, the motion was carried minus, however, any display of enthusiasm. Cr. Luxford: But don't let it occur again.
