CORRESPONDENCE.

MAYOEAL ELECTIONEERING.

(To the Editor.) Sir, —Your issue of this (Monday) morning contains a statement as to what Wellington is proposing to do m the way of ci&aumg up the town, and asks "What about VVanganui?" lam happy to/ say that Wanganui seeds no lead from Wellington in this matter. As far as disinfectants are concerned, for many months Gr. (Sower, as chairman of tho Sanitation Committee, has had a supply of Joeally-made disinfectant constantly provided at the Council Office, and to ba had at cost price, mucJi cheaper than ihe imported article. About a fortnight before the influenza plaguo descended on Wangantif tfie Council advertised in the local papers calling attention to the approach of tho epidemic and urging people to procure the disinfectant we were ready to supply. I regret to say that you did not thin ; it worth while to ea'l attention to the advertisement in your reading columns. Sine© the epidemic;the sanitation committee is making every effort' to see that the town is kept eiean. At the last meeting of the Council a letter was received from the Health Department giving suggestions for a "clean-tip week. 1' Ilie Council approved of +he idea, but as it takes a good deal of organisation tiiey have decided to leave it to the new Council. In addition, the new destructor will greatly facilitate the task of disposing ot oar rubbish. f have no doubt that the new Council will be of the same opinion as myself, anxious to see that tho sermons of the last plague are not forgotten.—l am etc.,

C. E. MACKAY

(Mr. Mackay is apparently anxious to do a little cheap electioneering at the "Chronicle's" expense. Unfortunatly for him. however, the nublic has a much better memory than he appears to hmro. They will remember th<U l*>th the "Herald" ani the "Chronicle" devoted columns of snnce throughout the whole period of the opidemic to publication of all the information it w-ns tjos^Hle to obtain for the <r"idaix>e and assistance of the citizens.
