At the inquest upon Mrs E. McDonald, who died at the hospital on Sunday, the medical evidence was to the effect that deceased was progressing satisfactorily when septicpneumonia set in, caused by the wound, death ensuing later. A verdict to this effect was returned by the Coroner, Mr Wyvern Wilson.

A young woman. Miss Joyce Lankr shear, aged 25, died rather suddenly early on Thursday morning while travelling from Great Barrier to Auckland on the launch Ngariti. Miss Lankshear. a recent arrival from Wellington, had been staying at Great Barvier with some friends and as her health, was somewhat indifferent it was decided that she should return to Auckland for medical attention. The return voyage was only in progress a few hours when the deceased expired. An inquest will be held. •

Capetown, Sydney and Wellington, and he is prepared to spend £3.000,000, and more if necessary.

The annual convention of the New Zealand Coach and Motor Vehicles Trades' Industrial Association of Employers was resumed in Wellington on Mionday. Mr W. J. Boon, president, was in the chair. On - the question of tariff requirements of the trade, .the following resolutions were passed: "That this association approach the Government in the imatter of tariff requirements, with a request that a duty of 20 per cent be levied on the complete car, and 5 per cent on chassis." "That a duty of 50 per cent be levied on completed motor car bodies (or "knock-down bodies)."

At the meeting of the Bdrtmgh Council last night, th© Mayor moved: "That in tib© opinion or this Council no schjome of erecting workers' homes will be satisfactory unless it makes provision for workers nvho so desire, either to become the. owners of same or at least be entitled to the benefits of the improvements effected by them on the land." The motion was warmly supported by Cr. L. J. Sigley and other members of the Council and carried unanimously. ;

At the Borough Council meeting last night an account for £lo was received from a local undertaking firm in connection with the cioatn or a man at the Druids' Hall temporary hospital during the epidemic. The deceased was a resident of Wanganm County and left a wife and five children in poor ciroumatanceß. Several of the Oounoil, while expressing sympathy, questioned if the liability should fad -on the Borough, or whether the relief fund cculd be drawn upon. The Mayor expressed particular regret at Cr. Alderton's retirement, and com* mended Crs. Slipper and Burnett for gocd work and energy in civic aifairs. All the councillors had a few remarks of a kindly nature to make, and the assertion recently made publicly to the eifect that the Council was governed by a clique, or was *i "one man show" w - s repudiated.
