PERSONAL.

Mr. R, W. Smith, M.P., who.has been for some weeks recovering from a. sharp attack of appendicitis, has taken his seat in the House again. Mr. W. Clark, who has been manager of the Nelson branch of Messrs. Sargood, Son and Ewen, has received notice of transfer to Pahnerston.

Two sons oi: ex-President Roosevelt, Theodore and Archibald, landed in France a few weeks ago. and are attached to General Pershing's •leadquarters staff. Their elder brother is with the British forces in Palestine.

Lieut. D. C. Armstrong, of the Rule Brigade, who was on the staff of the Rank of New Zealand m Wellington, is amongst the officers who received the Military Cross as a result of the fight at Messines.

Mr R. K. Reed, of Palmerston, who has'been an invalid for some time, and his daughter, Miss A. D. Reed, formerly infant mistress at the Campbell St. School, who had her foot amputated early this year, are at present at Te Aroha, and are both progressing favourably.
