The new freezing works at Kakariki are steadily shaping form, and travellers passing by train are astonished to find such large works going up. It is ■ confidently anticipated tliat the new works will be ready to commence working by the end of the year. The capacity of i,he works is 2000' sheep and 100 head, of cattle per day, with a storage equivalent to 90J000 carcases of 601b. The buildings are of brick and concrete, and practically indestructible. Owing to war conditions, difficulty has been experieiiced in procuring machinery, and portions of the plant, including the refrigerating macninery, will not be to hand for some time. Before starting the construction, however, the directors were satisfied that by an adjustment of surplus freezing power at present at Waterloo Quay and Ngahauranga, disappointments of this nature would not preclude a start for the new season..
