COOK STRAIT CABLE.

(Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON,' August 29. In the House of Representatives this afternoon, <Sir Joseph Ward said that an additional cable across Cook Strait, connecting the North and South Islands, had been successfully laid, and tests made that day were most satisfactory. The cable had been laid by the Eastern Extension Company, this arrangement effecting a saving of £14,000 to the Dominion.
