At the Supreme Court, John C. Ledel, who had pleaded guilty to the theft of £49 belonging to the Auckland City Council, was placed on probation for three years and ordered to repay the amount of the defalcations at the rate of £2 per month.

THIRD JURY DISAGREES

NAPIER, August 29. At the Supreme Court the jury failed to agree in a case, wherein Whaingawa Wirihanga was charged with the manslaughter of a newsboy at Hastings. Accused's motorcar collided with the-boy's bicycle and the collision caused the latter's death. This was the third trial. TJie jury failed again to agree and a new trial was applied for. Sir Robert Stout said the requirement of unanimity in a jury in these cases was a perfect farce.
