"ALWAYS AN EXCUSE MADE."

At the Magistrate's Court yesterday before Mr. j. (j. L. Hewitt. S.M., William Hogg was charged with selling milk beiow tlie standard required by the Sale of Pure Food and Drugs Act.

Sergt-.- Taylor said Hogg did not deliver the milk, but sola it to others, who were just as likeiy, even more likely, to "fail m."

Mr T. B. Slipper appeared for* the defendant, and pleaded guilty. ' The defendant produced a cooler, and explained that after the inspector's visit lie had found a hole in it, which had allowed water to run into the milk.

His Worship pointed out that the analyst's certificate showed there was reason to believe the miik had been skimmed as well. Th© question of it being watered was quite separate. Thos. Pargeter, inspector, said he visited Hogg's farm on the No. 3 Line, and found a large can of milk placed near the gate. Witness purchased a sample, and the analysis showed the results disclosed.

Mr. Slipper: I trust, the defendant has shown how the water got in.

Mr. Hewitt: There is always some excuse as to how the water gets in. He will be fined £25.
