HYDRO-ELECTRIC POWER

WELLINGTON, August 16. A large deputation representing the towns and local bodies of Wellington Province waited upon the Hone. W. F. Maseey, Sir Joseph Ward, and W. Fraser this afternoon to urge the vigorous prosecution of the hydro-electric scheme. The delegates emphasised the success of the Lake Coleridge scheme, and pointed out that much water-power was going to waste. The three Ministers sympathised in replying, but pointed out that war considerations had to be dealt with before anything els©. Mr Fraser explained, also, the great shortage of labour, and last year because of this fact he had not been able to spend half the amount allocated to him. The work would be put in hand as soon as money and men were available.
