OUTLOOK MORE OMINOUS THAN

EVER.

Per Press Association,

WELLINGTON, August 16

According to the ."Sydney Daily Telegraph" of 10th instant, the strike outlook was then more ominous than ever, in extension of the trouble seeming likely. Negotiations .between the Union committee and the Government had been abortive, the Government adhering to its firm attitude. The strikers' defence com" mittee on' Thursday night resolved to carry on the fight till- the card system is withdrawn. They also intended to confer with other unions not yet involved. The result of this conference was .expected on Friday. Mr. Fuller, Acting-Premier, announced on Thursday that there was a growing improvement in the railway train services, volunteers offering freely for services where strikers had left their posts. A meeting of wharf^ labourers decided to do no more work till the card system was withdrawn. The Labour Council Vice-President declared that the fight was only "just about to commence."
