WELLINGTON, December 18. A spell of twelve days of dry weather has resulted in the usual influx of sharks into the harbour, and 'bathers are warned to exercise caution.
'Mr. G. F. Campbell, who is to take Mr. Poynton's place as secretary to the Treasury, will also act as Superintendent of the State Guaranteed Advances Office.
Mr. A. L. Beattie, Chief Mechanical Engineer in the New Zealand Railways Department, will retire on pension at the end of March.
The Hon. Mr. Fisher goes to Auckland with Mr. Massey, and after meeting the Governor-designate he> will remain in Auckland to meet the English lawn tennis team, -and to play against them in Auckland. Ho will then take his Christmas holiday, and accompany the team and play against them at Hastings, Christchurch, and Wellington. "To obviate any misapprehension that may. (exist in regard.to the matter, I want to make it perfectly plain," says Mr. Fisher, "that I am not going to take any holiday at the public expense', but will accompany the English team as a private individual."
