POSITION OF THE ASSOCIATION.

CHRISTCHURCH. July 5

The first annual ce^bration of tho Canterbury branch of the Engine Drivers', Firemen's, and Cleaners' Union was held on Saturday evening.

It was reported that a deputation met the Hon. J. A. Millar that evening and had a satisfactory interview regarding the position of the Association. It is understood that tho Minister will consider the claim of the Association to be legally recognised when it has 1000 members. At present there are 960, but it is expected the balance will be obtained in the North Island soon.
