A YOUNG BARBARIAN
CHRISTCHURCH, September 13. A lad named William Slye was fined ss. _at tho Police Court to-day for tortaring, a cat at Sydenham on September sth. Evidence was given that the accused had snared the oat in a box, and had then speared it with a sharp pole. Accused stated that he had speared the cat threo times, but intended no cruelty. He wanted to kill the animal, and hit on that plan.
