THE OPERA HOUSE AND PUBLIC
MEETINGS
To the Editor
Sir,—l yi-as very much pleased to read your common-sense article in today's issue re the uset of the Opora House or Town Hall, 'for borough purposes, and would suggest a way out of the difficulty, as there is no doubt that should it be required for any great event, say, ■.■entertaining■ royalty, it •would be available som<4how. The Borough Council has the right, I presume, to engage any suitable place for a polling booth or other public purpose, if needed, and mv suggestion is for them to call a public meeting to consider the question of the Pairapara road and authorise tho Town Clork to hire the Opera Hou.se for the occasion, as the Council Chamber would be too small for such a gathering. The ratepayers would then pay for it and get the monoy back (or ought to) through the Opera Hou.se account, and be quits. It might also be worth while, and certainly a benefit to the ratepayers, it tho Council would call a meeting in the tfaimi place to discuss rating on unimproved land values. — I am, etc., RATEPAYE R.
