THE HOSPITAL FUND.

To the Editor

Sir, —In your issue of Thursday I notice I a copy of a letter sent by the Mayor of Wanganui to the clerk of the Rangitikei County Council asknowledging the receipt of £6 10s 6cl collected by the Rangitikei Council on behalf of the now Hospital Ward, in which it is stated that, with the exception of £25 from tlie Marton Borough Council and about £8 collected by Mr Pybus (of Rata), he had not received £10 from the whole of the Rangitikei District. I regret to learn that so laudable an object should not have been more liberally supported. No doubt a number of the people of Rangitikei subscribed towards the Queen's statue to be erected in Wellington, I myself having done so before being made aware of what was intended to be done in Wanganui ; otherwise my subscription would have been considerably increased, and probably others were in the same position as myself. I cannot, however, help thinking that the Mayor was under a. misapprehension-when stating that the amount did not reach £10. as, for instance, myself and family paid Mr Hatrick £4 18s; this, with the £6 10« 6d acknowledged, would amount to £11 8s 6d. Surely there must have been some other subscriptions from the Rangitikei County overlooked by the Mayor at the time of writing.—l am, etc., R: K. SIMPSON1.
