CORRESPONDENCE.

TOO MUCH FOOTBALL

To the Editor.

Sir, —I noticed1 in your issue of the 22nd instant, a letter over the. signature "Constant Reader," complaining that you gave nearly two whole columns last Monday morning -to reports of football matdies. Poor "Constant. Reader" seems, to have got it very badly, judging from his feeble attempts at sarcasm, concerning this most popular of games and its admirers. In my opinion, you deserve the best thanks of all :football enthusiasts, active and non-active, far the- excellent reports of matches and matter concerning the game, which, you provide. The important representative matches played last Saturday, ana tne match in .which the visiting N.S.W. rteam took part, fully merited the space allotted in your ijSsue of Monday last-. "Constant Reader" seems to have a grievance against the game itself, more than a complaint against too much space being given .to it in your paper. He simply does not know what he »s writing about when he refers to a gathering of 1200 persons, including, .1 should say, over istiu ladies, as a "motley crowd." "No doubt you, Mr Editor, will j be extremely obliged to "Constant Read- i er" for his advice as to what you Should j insert in your columns. Of course we all have ou.r own opinions asi to what ought to appear in the paper, but some of us, unlike "Constant Reader," have considerations for the opinion of . others. I <fo not think the spirit shown by your correspondent is at all English or manly, when he wi'ites as he does about one of our national sport*. In conclusion, I can only wonder, Mr Editor, that. you can find room to insert in your columns such empty-headed effusions as "Constant Reader's."-! am, etc.,
