VOLCANIC OUTBREAK.
(Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, March 1. The manifold sighte of the thermal regions have been augmented by a xemarkable outbreak in the vicinity of Lake Bptomahana. Mr Humphrey Haines lately witnessed a most remarkable explosion there. About one acre of country suddenly burst forth with great noise and immense steam, and threw a great column, of muddy water and stones to a height of about 600 ft. A vast cloud of steam asconded for 2000& The mud thrown up was bespattered for a considerable distance around. The blow-out is still very active. It is reported to be throwing Tip water in
geyser form daily and emitting great quantities of steam. Echo Lake, close by. is also very active.
