THE MOMOHAKI BLOCK.

[Per Press Association.] Wellington, March 29, The dispute re tho Momohaki Block again cropped up at to-day's meeting of the Land Board. Mr Pirani, M.H.R., remarked that the Under-Secretary had in his opinion acted illegally in throwing open the land in question for settlement, and very likely he had acted entirely upon his own authority and without consulting the Minister for Lands. The Commissioner of Crown Lands said that, whatever the cause, there could be no doubt that the result was a deadlock, becauso aftar the communication had been received from the Department the Board were powerless to act. He considered it would be better to interview the Minister before taking any further action. Eventually Mr Fi3her moved, and it was resolved, " That as under Section 49 of ' The Land Act, 1892,' the Land Board are the sole judges of the fulfilment of conditions ot leases and licenses, they deem it necessary that before approving of applications for the Momohaki A'illage Settlement, this Board should be advised under what section of the Act of 1892 the Block was opened as the letter of the Under-Secretary of the 22nd inst. does not give the information asked for, and therefore before approving of the applications the Commissioner of Crown Lands should fix the date for a special meeting of the Board to interview the Minister for Lands on the subject."
