EDUCATION BOARD.

The monthly meetmp* of tho Education Board was resumed yesterday. PresentMessrs Notman (in the chair), Bridge, Carson, Sanson, Baker, Beckett, and Fry. E-tham.— lt was decided to suppy 14 desks and hat pegs, Cheltenhasi.— At the request of the master, two desks were ordered to be supplied. Palmerston North.— With regard to the requost for drill instruction, the Board regretted that no funds were available for the purpose, but suggested that the applicant (Miss Dillon) apply to the Schools Committee, and ask them to make what arrangements they deemed advisable. Kelvin Geove. — Decided that there were no funds available for painting the school, Te Roti.— Application for clearing grounds.— Decided that there were no funds available. Pihama.— Resolved, that, as there was i tank already, the Boa-rd did not consider a well necessary. Akatika.— Resolved, to grant £ for £ up to £5 for a shelter shed. Kaibanoa.— Application for requisites was referred to the Executive. Hunterville. — Tho request of Mr Insoll for additions to residence was acceded to on the conditions named by him. Halcombe. — Resolved that £ for £ up to £7 be granted for shelter shed : also, that hooks and cbair be supplied. HubliEtvillb.— Resolved, that £ for £ up to £5 bo granted for shelter shed. Pemberton.— Resolved, that no funds weie available for the erection of a residence. Otakeho.— The application for a well could not cc entertained. Technical School. — Notice from the Education Department was received to the effect that the sum of X2OO, " grant-in-aid to technical instruction classes," had been passed. Audits. — On the motion of Mr Fry, seconded by Mr Bridge, it was resolved, "That the gentlemen recommended to act as auditors be approved, and where no recommendation is made by a Commitcee that *he school's accounts be sent to the Secretary for him to audit." Scholabships. — On the motion of Mr Bridge, seconded by Mr Carson, resolved, "That tho Executive Committee be requested to report at the next meeting upon tbe scholarship regulations, with a view to the revision of the syllabus for senior scholarships." Boundaries. — Messrs Fry and Sanson reported that thoy had revised the boundaries of the several districts referred to them, and recommended that the boundaries te advertised at once. Poukiobe-— Mr Beckett brought forward an application for a school at Poukiore. Kosolved, to reply that the Board had opened a school at Manganoho, which would suffice. leacheus' Certificates. —On the motion of Mr Hurley, seconded by Mr Carson, it was resolved, " That this Board desires to place upon record its pleasure at the very satisfactory results of the teachers' certificate examinations as rogards the popil.teachera from this district, and that tbe Chairman addrees a covering circular letter to the successful candidates and the head.teachers who instructed them." Aided Schools. — Resolved," That three months' notice from April Ist be given to aided schools where the average is under five." Ann ual Report. — The Inspector's annual report was read and adopted. Diuwinq.— On the motion of tho Chairman, seconded by Mr Bridge, the syllabus was adopted, and it was ordered that a copy be forwarded to all headmasters. Actino-Secrbtabt.— Resolved, " That the Acting-Secretary be paid his salary at the increased rate from April Ist.-" The Board then went into committee to consider the application of Mr Spencer (assistant inspector) for an inciease of salary and different arrangement of travelling allowance. Upon resuming, it was reported that it had been decided to increase Mr Spencer's salary to £300 per annum from April Ist, but that the Board could not see its way to increase his travelling allowance. I The Board then adjourned till 2 p.m. Upon resuming, a letter from the Canterbury education Board re building grant wa3 read, but no action taken. Executive. — Resolved, "That the Chairman and Messrs Bridge, Baker, and Carson form the Executive for (,ho current year." Technical School.- Tho tender of T. H. Battle for a lecturo tablo and cupboards was accepted. Inspector's Report.— The Board wout into committee to consider the Inspector's reports of a number of schools, and, upon resuming, reported theroon. It was resolved, on tlio ino f ion of Mr Bansou, "That tho minutes of tho Conference of School Inspectors bo considered at the next meeting." Mr Fry gave notice of motion for next moeting— •' That Clauss 105 of tho Regulations be struck out, and that tho following bo substituted, viz. : 'That the Board meets on the second Monday in each month,' and * That the May meeting be held on Monday, May 14th, 1891.'"
