MR GLADSTONE.

Mr Gladstone, replying to tho address presented him by the Scotch Liberals has declared that bis career was chargeable with many errors of judgment, bnt was governed by uprightness of intention, His future attendance in Parliament, hu said, would be uncertain, as after sixty years' contention he was glad of the re- 1 lief from active conflict. The attitude I of the House of Lords, regarding the Liberals, he thought demanded an early decision from the country. He concluded by statiDg that Lord Rosebery was the new spirit aiming to improve the workers' lot in England, but the greatest danger of the overgrown population would be from their being permitted to remain ignorant. Pr Nettleship certifies that Mr Gladstone lias cataract in both eyes.
