In the House this afternoon Mr Wilson asked the (government whether they could place a sum of money on the estimates to euable the Commissioners of Railways to subsidise thp Manawatu Railway Company, so \^hat the Company may be able to run s train solely for passengers, so as to give the travelling public between Wellington, Palmeraton, Wanganui,AuckInnd, and Napier a more convenient and faster service. The Hon. 3&r Seddon said he did not think it would be politic for the Government to subsidise any private line. The Ministry did not see their way, under the present circumstances, to grant the re qu?3t.
