A MURDERER RELEASED.

« (Per Press Association,) Christchurch, July 17. In 1883, a Maori named Oratima Jacomb was sentenced, at Christohurch, to death for the murder of his wife at the Maori pah near Kaikoura. The sentence was commuted to imprisonment for life, the jury making a strong recommendation to mercy. For some time past the prisoner has been in very bad health, and taking all mattors into consideration, and the fact that tho prisoner's conduct has been exemplary during his ten years' incarceration, the Governor, on tho advice of the Cabinet, has baen pleased to remit the remainder of the sentence, and Oratima will be at once released.
