WANGANUI RIFLES.
The Wanganui Rifles paraded Mg night at the Drill Kail. The CoojK and Band turned up in good force^E after the usual inspection were tua^B down to the Rutland Hotel, wher^B annual meeting was held, Captain^Bj Watt in the chair. Minutes.— The minutes of the^E vious annual and special meeting^B read and confirmed. . . Report.— The Secretary read tl^K port from the retiring Council, stated that the Company was in a^B satisfactory position. , In regard t^B shooting, the Company wast in the j^B position of having the premier rifi^B of the colony. Their team had l^B the Dunedin City Guards, which that time the crack team of. the c^B and at the New Zealand Rifle Aj^E tion's meeting at Nelson the W^B team had again been successful. I^B fire members had passed the a^B class-firing, and the Company had^B complimented by the Comma^B Officer of the districtfor their efficie^B drill. There were 105 members c^B roll, but about 20 of these had left t^B trict. The Band was in a high state ciency, and the thanks of the Coi^B were due to Bandmaster King, forh^B wearying efforts to keep the Baud^B the mark. The members of the^B pany were reminded that there^B £28 11s 6d worth of subscriptioo^B unpaid, and those in arrears we^B quested to pay up as soon as poj^B — The adoption of the report was i^B by Captain Watt, seconded by Yol^B McGregor, and carried. Finances. — The balance-sheet fc^B past year was read by the Trea^B Lieutenant Jones, showing thaj^B Company was in a better position^B last year, to the extent of nearly There was still an overdraft offlß £317, though there was a bakn^B assets over liabilities of iioOO.^B balance-sheet was adopted, on the n^B of the Chairman, seconded by I^B Corporal Nutsford* ~^B Election of Officers. — The foj^B ing ofß.cers were elected for the e^B year: — Secretary, Corporal Bush;i^B surer, Lieutenant Jones ; Coo^B Corporal Armstrong, Colour-Sa^B Hughes, Sergeant Aamodt, Se^B Wild, Sergeant Oliver, and Co^B Nutsford. Match Committee— C^B Watb, Colour-Sergeant Hughes,^B Corporal Cummins. Handicaj^B Sergeant Wild. Subscriptions. — Lance - Co^B Nutsford moved the resolution sta^B in his name, That the subscripti^B future be Is per month, instead of^B per quarter as formerly ; secondo^B Corporal Bush, and carried.— lt^B decided, That the question of proc^B a new uniform be held over for th^B sent. — Corporal Bush moved, Tbi^B member 3s in arrears be not perd^B to compete for any trophy or Seconded by Lance-Corporal Nut^B After some discussion it was res^B on the motion of Volunteer H^B seconded by Corporal Edwards, TfaJ^H matter be left in. the hands of the G^B Drill Hall.— The Company.^B went into Committee in reference to^B position regarding the Drill HallJ^B Votes of Thanks.— Votes of T^B were passed to the retiring Seci^B Treasurer, and Council. '^B Rifle Challenge Cup. — The C^B read a letter from the secretary New Zealand Rifle Association, B^B that this Cup, which was suppos^B have been won by the Wanganui^^B team at the Association's uieetii^B Nelson, was withdrawn from the match before the meeting began,^B restored to the match which been fired for some years previo^B namely, the North v. South I*j^| match, and the competitors had aDl| notified of this before the me^| began. This letter was in reply to^H written by Captain Watt, asking H the Cup should be sent to the Wans^B Rifle Company. Captain Watt sai^B reply was simply an evasion. L^B Corporal Nutsford said he unden^B that the Cup was to be withdrawD,^B another substituted. This Cup, £25 in cash, was to be the ]^B Bandsman Foster said he had iu^B stood that a Cup and £25 was to b^fl prize. — The Chairman said this wsJ^B most paying match of the meetin^B the Association received about £'S3^B entries, whereas they had only paid^B in prizes. New Members.— Mr Jas. Eobi^fl was elected a member of the Couij^B Votes of thanks to the handicapj^B Sergeant Wild, and to the Chairt^B concluded the business of the nieetiJ^B
