From the 25 German divisions now in Italy, six have been despatched to northern regions, either to fight against Italian patriots or to meet Yugoslav Partisans on the border of Veneziaciulia, said General Alexander, in a first communique to Italian patriots. He added that the danger of a further development in the battle on the Italian Liberation front, which may arise from one moment to another, prevents the Germans from .using these six divisions against the Fifth and Eighth armies. CAPTURE OF PONTECORVO REPORTED BY SWISS RADIO GERMAN NEWS AGENCY CLAIMS (Received This Day, 9.40 a.m.) i LONDON, May 22. The Swiss radio says the Allies have capturdd Terracina and Pontecorvo. The German News Agency says the focal pdint of yesterday’s great battles in Italy ; -w.as /the township of Pontecorvo, against which numerically superior Allied forces throughout the day launched concentric attacks, supported by hundreds of medium bombers and a terrific artillery barrage. The German garrison held on and wiped out one major enemy unit, which temporarily penetrated the town.
