FIRE AT MIKI MIKI
ABOUT 400 ACRES SWEPT BY FLAMES. THREE PROPERTIES AFFECTED. About 400 acres of scrub, fern and grass were swept by fire yesterday afternoon and last night, in the Miki Miki foothills. The fire is still burning. The properties affected were those of the late Mr. J. C. Ewington, Messrs. Trass Bros and Mr. L. A. Keats, all in the Miki Miki area. The fire, which broke out about 2 o’clock, burnt fences in places and five sheep belongin'’ to Mr. Keats are reported to have been lost. Fortunately, no buildings were endangered. The flames were whipped up during the night by a strong wind: but the fire has now died down again, though logs, etc., are still burning.
