SUMMER FLOWERS

FINE DISPLAY IN PARK SOME BEAUTIFUL BEDS. MANY VISITORS IMPRESSED. The beds of summer flowers in th«j Masterton Park are giving promise of a splendid display. Visitors to the district have expressed their admiration of the fine order in which the park is maintained and have said that it was a credit to the town. A visit to the Park makes it apparent that the splendid work being put in by all the park stall was producing excellent results. The inain problem at present is the dry weather and a rather burning wind. Near the main entrance to the park is a fine border of bedding petunias of blue and a new pink shade called rosier. A bed of salvia bonfire is coming into flower and nearby there is a bed of bronze calliopsis and one of pink gem petunias . Further down the path a bed of dimorphotheca (African daisy) gives a blaze of colour which makes the eyes ache when the sun is shining. Neyt to the rose garden, which will soon be in full bloom for the second time this season, there arc beds of carnations, salvia, fibrous rooted begonia and scarlet verbenas. The begonias in the begonia house will be in full bloom in about a week’s time. Already there are several out. the colours ranging from delicate apricot shades to pink. Basket begonias and blue and white strctocarpus are in flower. Near the band rotunda is a fine showing of phlox drurnmondi, carnations, petunia, zinnias and gaillardia. Among the many colours in the carnations is a most unusual lemon shade. At the south end of the park are many beds of dahlias. African and French marigolds, blue bedding farinacca and many other colourful flowers. The park lake has been most popular and many people have boon enjoying outings in the boats.
